Please join us on Thursday, September 14th for a discussion on the future of risk management in the digital age. The following topics will be addressed:
- Big picture trends - What the industry and risk management might look like over the next 3-5-10 years given digital transformations (e.g. Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, digital currencies and roboadvisers)
- Ops risk and compliance transformation (fraud, conduct, AML, etc.)
- Stress testing - Harmonizing CCAR exercise with strategic planning, analytics and running the business
- Data transformation supporting risk management (risk data aggregation and dealing with fragmentation, consistency, systems, hierarchies)
Cynthia Abbott, Managing Director and Head of Franchise Risk Architecture, Citigroup
Cynthia Abbott is a Managing Director and Head of Franchise Risk Architecture for Citigroup. The Risk Architecture group is responsible for credit risk analytics, capital and stress testing methodology and pensions risk reporting and analysis.
In addition, Cynthia is the Head of Business Architecture and Transformation within the Finance and Risk Infrastructure organization. In this role, Cynthia provides a single interface to technology for Finance and Risk initiatives and supports common platforms, architecture and process design.
Cynthia joined Citi in July 2000 as part of Franchise Risk Architecture. She held various roles, including serving as the Head of Global Risk Reporting and Analysis, responsible for the risk reporting functions that support Global Risk Management across all business lines (ICG, GCB) and risk disciplines (Credit, Market, and Operational risk). Most recently, she was the Head of Risk Systems and Technology for Franchise Risk Architecture. Prior to joining Citi, Cynthia was a Market Risk Manager at NatWest Financial Markets covering Interest Rate products.
Ms. Abbott graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering from Lehigh University and a M.S., Real Estate Finance from New York University.
Cheryl Geremia, Managing Director, Global Head of Operational Risk, Morgan Stanley
Cheryl Geremia is the Global Head of Operational Risk for Morgan Stanley. Cheryl joined Morgan Stanley in 2008 as Managing Director, Global Head of Operations Risk & Control. She subsequently took on responsibility for Enterprise Operational Risk & Control which was integrated into the Operational Risk Department in early 2013 to form a single unit led by Cheryl. Additionally, Cheryl is Co-Chair of the Firm’s Recovery and Resolution Planning program.
Kayvaun Rowshankish, Partner, McKinsey & Company
Kayvaun Rowshankish is a Partner at McKinsey & Company, based in New York, where he is a member of Digital McKinsey, as well as the global leader of McKinsey’s Risk Data and Digital Risk practices. He serves Universal Banks, Investment Banks, Asset Managers, Regional Banks and other financial institutions on a broad range of risk, finance, operations, data and technology related issues.
Kayvaun oversees 10 roundtables each year, an annual benchmarking across approximately 100 FIs on Risk Data and Digital Risk is a regular speaker and is extensively published on the topic.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Kayvaun spent 12 years at Diamond Management and Technology Consultants (acquired by PwC), where he was a Partner in their Banking practice. Kayvaun graduated from Surrey University with a BA in Business Studies and he received an MBA from Cass Business School with a specialization in technology.
Jaime Vazquez, Policy Advisor, Regulatory Affairs, Institute of International Finance (IIF)
Jaime Vazquez is a Policy Advisor in Regulatory Affairs at the Institute of International Finance (IIF), where he focuses on the Basel Committee for Banking Supervision regulatory reform agenda, on risk management topics and on cyber-security policies and regulations.
Jaime was seconded to the IIF in May 2016 from BBVA, where he was the Head of the Solvency Policies Department and the Resolution Office. His responsibilities included the technical support for the implementation of Basel III, the analysis of post-Basel III reforms and other regulatory reforms, the preparation of the first Resolution Plan under the new European resolution framework and the interaction with different regulatory bodies and supervisors at national and international level. Prior to that he was responsible for the Group Accounting Policies, where he spent 7 years after being a manager in the Internal Audit Department. Before joining BBVA, Jaime was a manager at PwC auditing and consulting financial institutions.
Jaime is a Bachelor of Economics and Business Administration from CUNEF (Complutense University) in Madrid, and is a Certified Auditor. He has also been a teacher at the IE Business School, at Deusto University and at the Options & Futures Institute.
Eric Yoss, Chief Risk Officer for the Americas, Mizuho Financial GroupEric Yoss is Chief Risk Officer for Mizuho Financial Group's Operations in the Americas. Additionally, Eric is CRO for Mizuho Americas, LLC and Mizuho Bank USA. Mr. Yoss joined Mizuho in January 2016 and is responsible for risk management oversight of all risk types across all legal entities and bank branches in the Americas.Prior to joining Mizuho, Mr. Yoss held several senior roles at Barclays, most recently as Head of Risk for the Americas and Chief Risk Officer for Barclays' US Broker/Dealer, Barclays Capital, Inc. In prior positions at Barclays, Eric was a member of the Executive Risk Committee for Barclays' Investment Bank with global risk management oversight of traded credit, loan syndication risk, securitization financing and trading, commercial mortgage securitization and trading, and derivative counterparty risk.Mr. Yoss has also worked at Deutsche Bank where he was a member of the Management Committee for Global Market Risk with oversight of all proprietary trading and hedge fund principal investing. Eric joined Deutsche Bank from J.P. Morgan where he held several positions across Structured Finance, Credit Portfolio and Risk Management.Eric is married with three children and lives in Summit, NJ.
